WIHARU WHITE OGRE KACHINA DOLL BY EUGENE DALLAS (HOPI)
Measurements: 12 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 4 3/4" deep
The Wiharu accompanies the Soyoko on their collection trip all the while making noises and stamping their feet. They frighten the children who the Soyoko are threatening to eat if their demands for food are not met. They represent for the children the consequences of misbehavior for the Soyoko know of all their misdeeds. Usually a relative will speak up for the child and he or she will be ransomed with offerings of food, at which point, the Soyoko will take the offerings and move on to another house to repeat the performance.
Katsina dolls are fragile by nature and may be broken in transit. We do our best to pack them efficiently and carefully, however due to their fragility, transit damage is unavoidable in some cases. Please keep this in mind when purchasing katsina dolls online for shipping. Luckily, katsina dolls do not decrease in value when repaired and can usually be repaired in the comfort of your home using a mixture of wood and super glue for smaller, clean breaks. For more extensive repairs from transit damage, see our returns page or store for details.
