Althea Cajero is the daughter of jeweler Dorothy Tortatlita and lapidary artist Tony Tortalita. She is of Acoma and Santo Domingo heritage and grew up in Santo Domingo Pueblo. Althea worked for the New Mexico Indian Health Service for nearly 20 years before becoming interested in making jewelry herself.
