SILVER & MULTI-STONE CUFF BY MICHAEL “NA NA PING” GARCIA (YAQUI)
Michael Garcia was born in 1952 in the village of Guadalupe just outside Tempe, Arizona. He learned silversmithing techniques from his uncles as a teen but went on to earn a degree in Business before turning to making jewelry professionally. The name Na Na Ping was given to him in ceremony by his wife's family and means Aspen Mountain in the Tewa language. He resides with his wife and son on the Nambe Pueblo reservation in northern New Mexico. His numerous awards include: the Arlene Feddes Fellowship from the Southwest Association of Indian Arts; Award of Excellence in Jewelry from the Southwest Indian Art Fair at the Arizona Sate Museum in Tucson; and multiple awards from the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Art Fair including Best of Show, First and Second place in jewelry, Best in Jewelry and Recognition of Excellence. Michael is known for his mosaic inlay using extremely high-grade material and for his iconic dragonfly design.
