Roy Talahaftewa was born in 1955 at Shungopavi Village on the Hopi Reservation in northern Arizona and is a member of the Corn Clan. He studied art at the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe. Among his many awards are "Best of Show" at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Indian Market. He is credited with originating a combined technique of gold overlay and tufa casting.
