Edison Cummings was born in 1962 in White Cone, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. His formal education and training was developed at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, where he graduated with an Associates degree in 3-dimensional design. He originally worked as a sculptor, but also produced paintings in acrylic throughout his career. He later mastered the art of silversmithing by producing and specializing in flatware. Although he is well known for his jewelry, he prefers the pounding and stretching techniques utilized in flatware design. His work has appeared in exhibitions from the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Santa Fe and the American Craft Museum, New York as well as being highly sought-after by private collectors.
He is well known from his unique inlay style, utilizing various precious gemstones and textured silver to create painterly designs.
