Cippy Crazyhorse

Born 1949

Cochiti Pueblo (Arizona)

Medium: Jewelry

Cippy Crazyhorse was born Cipriano Quintana to well known jewelers Terecita and Joe H. Quintana. He has maintained his artistic style while carrying on his family’s classic and traditional Pueblo jewelry designs. He did not start focusing on silversmithing until 1974, when an injury curtailed his career. His first works were silver chains before he gradually self-taught himself the old techniques of silversmithing.

He is well known for his bold, deep stamp and chiseled designs on thick gauge silver and he incorporates these in the Puebloan style on cuffs, concha belts and buckles. He has also experimented with beadwork.
