Tony Da (San Ildefonso)
Tony Da, son of Popovi Da and grandson of Maria Martinez, was born in 1940 and passed away in 2008. He is noted for continuing the traditions of his family and experimenting with new techniques and styles in pottery, including inlayed stone and beads and sgraffito etching. His pottery work combined these new techniques with designs found on ancient Mimbres pottery to striking effect. He is also known for his drawing and painting work which combine traditional Indian designs and subjects with contemporary backgrounds.
