Wallace Nez was born in 1972 and is originally from Aneth, Utah on the Navajo Reservation. He started working with clay as a child and sold his first piece at the age of 12. He won first place ribbons at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1999, 2000 and 2001 as well as Best of Division at the Museum of Northern Arizona Navajo Show in 1999. He produces his forms traditionally by gathering and processing natural clays then coiling and pinching the forms. He then paints and carves intricately detailed images on the surface.
